The inside joke here in Labrador is that we hate to see cement or asphalt being torn up just because the cost of replacement, cost of materials and the length of time it took to get it there in the first place. Years ago in Labrador City, there were several asphalt plants going around that Town paving residential driveways using broken asphalt leftover from some major project. A band named “Labrador Black Spruce” actually recorded a song about the asphalt plant moving around the Town. This was part of the reason we wanted to create such a beast as it was the first one ever to be in North West River.
The old house that we were inside looking for a burner had been condemned for a few years and slated for demolition. We got permission from the owner to go in thru the window since the door keys have been lost. It was a good house in its day and at one point was rented as a nurse’s residence to the Grenfell Mission. They had many lively parties. The year Boney M became famous, whenever that was. The basement where we found the burner was very dark and damp. Had a headache from the mildew the rest of the shoot day. I guess we stirred up more than cobwebs! Bad for that ah!
