Fuel is expensive in the north but as much a necessity as food, water and air. Those old Alpine snowmobiles were work horses back in their day. We were excited just to find one locally that was usable. Yeah one with good brakes! Those snowmobile trails are so very important to all of us in mid spring. We have seen families from the north coast driving back home on them with full komatik loads of goods from Goose Bay…..everything from beds, to furniture to new lumber and beyond. Larger items would have to wait until the ships start running again in late June or July.
It’s actually really fortunate that North West River is so close to the central distribution hub of Goose Bay. Finding metal, including empty 200 pound propane tanks is easy when there is a substantial and accessible scrap yard nearby. Now that we have great Lincoln welding equipment on site, there will be more great projects to be created using metal. We can sense it!
