Hovercraft, like the fan boats are few and far between in Labrador. They still are very useful machines in the north……especially the spring and the fall seasons when boat or snowmobile travel become dangerous on the ice and waters of our rivers and bays. The actual hovercraft in the show was bought in Ontario and transported to Labrador, as like I say, very few exist in Labrador. The entire garage was excited to take on this project as a novelty. Glad Ozzie needed a reason for it. The village of Mud Lake did flood out in the spring of 2017. The worst flooding ever on record….. and people have lived there for well over 200 years. Waiting to see the documentary Ozzie made on television about the event.
Couldn’t help but notice in the show how everyone was jokingly talking about how the prop on the motor could explode…as it did unexpectedly, sending pieces of wood all over the parking lot and up on the roof. Glad no one got hurt as it certainly was unplanned. We had to wait a full month for a new prop to arrive as it had to be built in Alabama to fit this particular hovercraft. We had started shooting the episode when snow was on the ground but the final scene clips had to be filmed after the snow and ice was melted. It was a task running around Central Labrador to find material to fix the skirting required. But that’s how it goes. Make it work. Get er done!
